Privacy Policy: Your IP address and searches are saved to aid monitoring the use of this site in an effort to reduce abuse of this service. Don't press submit if you have a problem with that.

Leave fields blank that you don't want to specify. Some combinations of fields that would return hundreds of results are restricted. Don't try to have your search return the whole database at once; the software will ban you from using the search ever again.

If you'd like to use wildcards in a text box search, use a % sign, though all spaces are replaced with wildcards already so "sc b e" would search "%sc%b%e%" and would return "Scotland the Brave" among a bunch of other tunes. Results will be returned with any number of characters in place of the wildcard, even none. If you want to deactivate this automatic replacement of spaces with %, turn off the "Do a fuzzy search?" option at the very bottom of the form.

This is not Google, the search terms you use must be typed exactly so as to match the entries in the database, except for spaces (which become wildcards) and any explicit wildcards you specify, of course.
Misspellings, words out of order, etc. will return zero results. Therefore, using as few search terms per field as possible will give you the best results, in general.

If you would like a custom search done please email me and I will either run it for you or implement the necessary functionality for you to do it yourself. Currently available customization options are shown in various shades of green, e.g. olive.

Title: Search both "Mac" and "Mc"? Yes No

Composer: Search both "Mac" and "Mc"? Yes No
I would recommend only searching by "first initial last name" as many books don't list the composer's full first name. Just make sure to leave out the middle initial and any periods. Leave out things like "P.M." too.

Book Number:
The list of books included in this index can be found by clicking here.
Searching by book number alone will list the entire contents of the book.

I wouldn't bother with these below as not every entry in the database has every field completed (though most do). Restricting your search by using the options below could prevent you from seeing results. Often tune title is sufficient.

Page Number:
Just a number, pretty useless to search by. Just here by default.

Tune Type: Anything but the tune type selected No
Probably better not to specify this unless you REALLY want to.

Time Signature:
Like this #/#, e.g. 6/8. Some Piobaireachd's/Ceol Mor omit the first number, e.g. /8.

Number of Parts: | Include tunes with no "number of parts" data -OR- cancel | Greater than or equal to -OR- Less than or equal to -OR- Not equal to -OR- cancel
Just a number, e.g. 2. If you search for 0 you will get all the entries that have no "number of parts" data.
